Petrolheads flock to Qatar Motor Show

MIDDLE EAST - More than 120,000 people flocked to the Qatar Motor Show last week, which had a distinctly Italian flavour.

The six-day event opened with an exclusive Ferrari F1 event organised by Shell at the Doha Exhibition Center. The event included a performance along the Doha Corniche by Scuderia Ferrari F1 driver Marc Gené.

An exhibition area of the 2012 Qatar Motor Show was dedicated to automobiles conceived, designed, and constructed by Italian firms, including Pininfarina, IDEA Institute, UP Design and Touring Superleggera.

Thirty-three car manufacturers and 10 motorbike brands took part in the event.

Premières and regional launches included the new 2012 Volkswagen Passat four-door family sedan, 2012 Porsche Panamera GTS, the new MINI Coupè Roadster, the 2012 Audi S7, S8 sport sedan, the RS 5 sports Coupè and the limited edition R8 GT Spyder.

The opening of the New Doha International Airport later this year is set to boost Qatar’s international profile.
