Reed Exhibitions buys book blogging convention

AMERICAS – Reed Exhibitions has acquired the Book Blogger Convention and will fully integrate the event into its BookExpo America (BEA) trade show.

The one-day Book Blogger Convention was launched in 2010 by Trish Collins of Hey Lady! Whatcha Readin’? and Michelle Franz of Galleysmith and is co-located with BEA at New York’s Javits Center. The 2011 edition attracted 340 attendees and featured a range of specialist marketing representatives from book publishing speakers.

Financial details of the latest deal were not disclosed.

“Trish and Michelle are devoted to their community and they have invested a tremendous amount of their personal time and energy into building a major presence for their colleagues at BEA,” BEA show director Steven Rosato said. “We are pleased to be able to take this responsibility over for them and to build even greater recognition forthe Book Blogger Convention by fully merging it with our BEA marketing efforts, programmes and attendee outreach.

"Book bloggers have emerged as a critical constituent in our universe and we look forward to serving them as thoroughly as possible in the years ahead."

The convention was previously held just after the expo finished, but will now take place on 4 June just as BEA starts. BEA runs from 4 to 7 June and is exclusively for book industry members.

“We feel this positioning will provide greater continuity for the book bloggers and will afford them more opportunity,” Rosato explained.

“This way, the book bloggers can attend their own event and then immediately participate in BEA or BlogWorld East, which gets underway on 5 June and is also co-located with BEA.”

Reed was previously involved in discussions with the American Library Association to merge its annual convention into BEA in 2010.
