Six cities vie for mobile technology expo

EUROPE - Mobile technology event organiser GSMA has announced six cities are competing to host the GSMA Mobile World Congress from 2013 through 2017.

Amsterdam, Barcelona, Cologne, Milan, Munich and Paris have been named candidate cities.

The next Mobile World Congress will take place in Barcelona from 14 to 17 February 2011. The four-day exhibition and conference has been held in Barcelona since 2006, and will remain there through 2012 when its contract expires.

"We evaluated 30 cities for this project and have selected these six to move forward to the next phase," says GSMA CEO John Hoffman. "This was a very difficult process and we believe that these candidates reflect our vision for the future of Mobile World Congress."

“The Mobile World Congress has grown significantly since it was started in 1987,” Hoffman continues, “and we look forward to shaping the future of the event with one of these outstanding candidate cities.”

The host city is expected to be announced in mid-2011.
