President Zuma opens King Shaka International Airport

SOUTH AFRICA – South African President Jacob Zuma said the opening of the new King Shaka International Airport in Durban will encourage “new opportunities for growth in business and tourism and is the missing puzzle to enable growth and development for the KwaZulu-Natal region”.

With a month to go until the kick off of the 2010 FIFA World Cup, the airport will provide much-needed support for international visitors. “Durban was the only major city that lacked the aviation infrastructure able to accommodate international flights,” said Zuma.

Transport minister Sbu Ndebele, Zulu King Goodwill Zwelithini and justice minister Jeff Radebe joined the President for the unveiling of a statue of King Shaka Zulu.

“At provincial and local government level, now is the time to encourage new investment in tourism products that are attractive for foreign visitors,” said Zuma.
