Tourism Malaysia looks to Jimmy Choo to attract business visitors

MALAYSIA – Tourism Malaysia has appointed Professor Datuk Dr Jimmy Choo OBE as a new Tourism Ambassador.

The famous shoe entrepreneur will aid the development of Malaysia as a business destination, with his first decree claiming his role was designed to “encourage hosting a shoe exhibition” which will be the Million Dollar Shoe Showcase 2 - 4 April.

"With the support from Professor Choo, we believe we can establish Malaysia as an international hub for shoe fashion and become a shoe buyer's centre," says Minister of Tourism Malaysia, Dato' Sri Dr Ng Yen Yen. "We believe this event will not only create an economic opportunity, but will also attract more tourist influx into the country."

Choo will also speak at the exhibition, giving insight on the shoemaking industry globally and how to elevate the status of the Malaysian shoe industry.

"My job is to tell people about art and skill and my vision is for Malaysia to become a centre for craftsmanship," says Choo. "I am concerned that in 15 years time, there will be no hand craft and everything will be made by machines."
