IMAG revs up to show the future of new mobility at Auto Shanghai

Messe Munich organising subsidiary IMAG, which runs 30 tradefairs around the world, is moving through the gears as it prepares to stage one of the world’s largest motor shows – Auto Shanghai, which will  run 21-28 April, 2021.

Tradefairs in China are picking up speed again and Auto China 2020, staged successfully in Beijing in earlier October, was the first major international motor show held since the beginning of the pandemic. A strict hygiene and safety concept enabled car manufacturers and suppliers to showcase their latest products and technologies to 530,000 visitors at an exhibition covering 200,000sqm.

IMAG says that, in China, tradefairs are now almost at the level of pre-Covid events, while the Chinese automotive market is undergoing a major recovery.

Auto Shanghai will be in residence for eight days at the National Exhibition and Convention Center (NECC) and Peter Bergleiter, managing director of IMAG, who has been the European co-organiser of the tradefair since 2003 said: “We are very much looking forward to offering international supplier companies a platform in China once again, since the Chinese auto market still finds broad interest. And events such as Auto China 2020 have shown in recent weeks that it is possible to stage even large tradefairs successfully and safely with the appropriate concepts.”

A separate event at Auto China, New Mobility China, will provide a platform for the future of driving in what is the world’s most important market for future technologies in the automotive industry.

There has been major state funding in smart city initiatives and a growing integration of vehicle, road and urban infrastructure in China. Chinese and foreign-funded manufacturers are increasingly producing New Energy Vehicles (NEVs) which already account for 40% of the new vehicles presented at Auto China 2020.

New Mobility China will have its focus completely on issues such as electromobility, autonomous driving and digitalisation.
