Platform for change

Christopher Hudson, president of dmg events, shares how the company is embracing its role as an inclusive platform to address critical energy challenges:

Tell us about the transformation that has been taking place at dmg events and what it means for the company’s place in the global events sector.

The global energy industry has undergone major shifts over the past decade, led by the need to provide secure, affordable and, most importantly, low-carbon energy.

Climate change has also presented new challenges and opportunities to the sector. With 40 energy events worldwide, dmg events has evolved over the years in line with the shifts experienced in the energy sector and we are constantly listening to the industry to evolve our events and ensure they are relevant and impactful.

Through our events, we seek to build new partnerships, showcase innovations that are having an impact, and bring together a broader spectrum of the world’s community.

dmg events was one of the event management companies to contribute to the COP28 gathering in the UAE in December 2023.

We facilitated the participation of 261 delegations in the COP28 Blue Zone and are dedicated to assisting leading minds in addressing the world’s most pressing challenges.

What does this mean for dmg events as an energy event organiser?

dmg events aim to play a central role in accelerating and delivering a secure, resilient and sustainable energy future for people and the planet, creating platforms where the best minds can come together to share knowledge and catalyse change. With our massive international network and legacy, we are uniquely positioned to mobilise the collective power of diverse viewpoints, innovative thinking, and collaborative action to help reimagine the world’s energy landscape.

This is all part of our efforts to evolve beyond being a traditional event organiser to become a meaningful platform to accelerate the energy transition and impact real change. In this regard, we have been  adapting and growing our events portfolio to reflect the ambition and direction of the broader industry, where we see energy companies playing a more central role in creating a more sustainable future for all industries, especially hard-to-abate sectors.

How is this shift being reflected in dmg events energy portfolio?

We strive to ensure that our events transcend geographical boundaries.

We have been expanding our energy portfolio in emerging and developed markets to ensure that no one is left behind in the pursuit of transformational energy progress.

We have been strengthening our presence in Asia, where we recently hosted India Energy Week and will be hosting the Future Energy Asia Exhibition and Summit in Thailand, the Japan Energy Summit & Exhibition and the China Energy Summit & Exhibition.

We also continue to launch events across Africa. Beyond our existing events like the Egypt Energy Show (EGYPES) and NOG Energy Week in Nigeria, we will be hosting the inaugural Global African Hydrogen Summit in September in Namibia.

We continue to tackle the global energy transition through our events in established markets, including Global Energy Transition in Milan and Gastech in Houston.

The upcoming edition of our flagship ADIPEC in the UAE will build on its 40-year legacy and with an increased focus on facilitating climate investment, fast-tracking innovation and accelerating technology adoption. ADIPEC 2024 is also ideally positioned to drive forward the energy transition outcomes of COP28 and its resulting UAE Consensus.

Ultimately, we seek to unite industries and individuals for a common purpose – a better future for people and planet.
