International CES stages largest show yet

AMERICAS - The International CES show has set new records spanning 190,000sqm of exhibition space at the Las Vegas Convention Center this year.

Held on 7-10 January, the show floor expanded from 180,000sqm in 2013, said show organiser the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA).

"It's our largest show due to the growth happening in technology," said Karen Chupka, senior vice president of International CES and Corporate Business Strategy.

More than 150,000 industry professionals attended the event as 3,200 exhibitors showcased their products.

“This year’s show was an energising display of where the future is headed, bringing to life cool new products from every industry that touches technology,” said Gary Shapiro, president and CEO of CEA. “One-third of the world’s population interacted with CES in some way this week as we experienced the future.

“From curved and flexible Ultra HD TVs and next generation smart phones to drones, robots, sensors, the Internet of Everything, Hi-Res audio, connected cars and 3D printers, it seems like the only thing missing from the 2014 CES was a time-travel machine.”

The organiser said major technology breakthroughs and product launches took place across 15 product categories and 25 market-specific TechZones.

The show also featured the 3-D System exhibit, where attendees sat down in a photo booth where multiple cameras would generate a 3-D model, which was then converted into a toy-sized figure.

The International CES will return to Las Vegas on 6-9 January 2015.

In other news, the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority and the Consumer Electronics Association have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), which sees the World Trade Center Las Vegas and the World Trade Center Mexico City co-market come under the World Trade Center brand.
