Chicago gets trade shows boost

AMERICAS – Three of America’s leading trade shows are extending their stays in Chicago.

The combined National Restaurant Association and Hotel-Motel Show has signed a five-year extension that will see the event run up to 2021 at McCormick Place.
The International Manufacturing Technology Show has also signed on for two more stints at the venue in 2018 and 2020.

Meanwhile, the Chicago-based American Library Association (ALA) has signed an agreement confirming Chicago will also host its show in 2020, 2023, and 2026.
Three years ago ALA relocated its 2013 annual convention from New York and selected Chicago. ALA is scheduled to return again to Chicago in 2017. The annual convention attracts 25,000 attendees.

“This is great news for our convention industry and shows that Chicago is the place for large, national organisations to come and do business," said Mayor Emanuel.

“The reforms at McCormick Place and Navy Pier have attracted more than US$3.25 billion in committed shows and this number continues to grow.”

Reed Travel Exhibitions has taken the decision to rotate its Americans Meetings and Events Exhibition (AIBTM) from Baltimore for Chicago and Orlando, from 2013.
