i2i Events Group appoints new head of China as part of growth strategy

ASIA - i2i Events Group has appointed a new head for China as part of its aggressive international growth strategy.

May Zhang will be based in Shanghai and comes with 20 years experience working as part of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, the Shanghai New International Exhibition Centre and Messe Cologne. Her resume includes a wide variety of industries as well as responsibility for launching several new shows including Foodtec and World of Food in 2006.

In addition, i2i highlighted Zhang’s close work with associations and chambers of commerce worldwide as key reasons for her appointment.

“We are delighted to welcome May to the i2i Events Group team and look forward to working closely with her in developing our business in China,” i2i Events Group CEO Mark Shashoua said. “International expansion is a crucial part of i2i’s growth strategy and China will become a key territory for us.”

The news of Zhang’s appointment comes three months after i2i made two new appointments to lead its global business push. In May, the organiser recruited Gordon Payne and international director and Hans Stoter as international sales director.

“We are substantially building outbound business from China to our UK events and are developing a portfolio of launch exhibitions and large-scale events to take place in China from 2013,” Shashoua continued.

“May and her team will be instrumental in driving the sales process and in providing a more focused level of customer service to our China-based clients.”
