Gift and Homewares association cancels Sydney gift show

AUSTRALIA – Gift and Homewares Australia (GHA) has cancelled of one of its Home and Giving Fairs, bringing the association’s portfolio to two events.

The remaining shows include one exhibition in Sydney and one in Melbourne. The Sydney Home and Giving Fair will take place at the Sydney Showground in February, and the Melbourne fair will run at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre and Melbourne Showgrounds in August.

The cancelled show was a second Sydney exhibition to run in July. According to a statement, the association decided to cancel the show in response to feedback from its members.

“After examining the performance history of the current industry trade fair calendar, and taking into account the feedback we received from our members, it becomes abundantly clear that the Australian market is signalling to us that it now only wants two fairs a year,” said GHA CEO David Leek. “Both in terms of the cost of exhibiting and the timerequired to attend, any additional spend over and above these two major fairs has become onerous and unnecessary for most business.”

Also in Australia, Reed Travel Exhibitions and the Melbourne Convention and Visitors Bureau claimed visitor numbers rose 10 per cent at the 2011 Asia-Pacific Incentives and Meetings Expo.
