Problems for New Zealand building contractor Fletcher Building, including a profit downgrade of NZ$100m (US$73.55m) and the departure of its chief executive Mark Adamson have contributed to a delay to the NZ$700m SkyCity International Convention Centre in Auckland New Zealand.

The ICC is now expected to opening mid 2019 instead of the beginning of that year as previously hoped.

SkyCity said in an update statement about the convention centre construction programme: “This slight delay will not impact on any of the [convention centre’s] confirmed bookings to date”.

Fletcher’s chairman Sir Ralph Norris, announcing the departure of CEO and managing director, Mark Adamson, said: “The Board believes it is the right time for Mark to leave the company, to allow a new CEO to lead Fletcher Building through this period and into the next phase of its strategy.”

Adamson said he was “disappointed” to finish his tenure on the back of a challenging result in the Construction Division.
