Messe Stuttgart’s ICS’ proximity to the Tuttlingen medical technology cluster and the university cities of Tübingen and Heidelberg is boosting its congress appeal.

Four big-name medical congresses are being staged in Messe Stuttgart’s ICS International Congress Center Stuttgart in 2017, one of them for the first time.

“Naturally, we are especially keen to host events from the medical sector, as these are particularly highly regarded. We are therefore very happy that the organisers have placed their trust in Messe Stuttgart. The range of events is wide. International, national and regional congresses will find the ideal setting at our facilities,” esaid Stefan Lohnert, VP of the division.

The quartet of congresses kicks off in March with the 58th annual congress of the German Respiratory Society (DGP), a conference and trade fair which around 3,500 participants are expected to attend. The DGP will be in Stuttgart for the first time, and its congress targets a German audience.

This will be followed in early September by the 45th congress of the German Rheumatology Society (DGRh), which is also being staged in Stuttgart for the first time, together with the 31st annual conference of the German Society for Orthopaedic Rheumatology (DGORh) and the 27th annual conference of the German Society for Paediatric and Adolescent Rheumatology (GKJR).

The organisers are also including an exhibition to accompany the event. The congress, which has an international focus, traditionally has a guest country. This year, it is Great Britain.

The annual conference of the German, Austrian and Swiss Societies for Haematology and Medical Oncology (DGHO, OeGHO, SGMO) are scheduled for late September 2017.

The organiser expects this international medical congress with accompanying exhibition, the largest to be held in the ICS this year, to attract some 6,000 participants.

The programme of events will conclude in November with the 12th annual conference of the German Spine Society (DWG) 2017. This is also a conference and trade fair designed for some 2,500 visitors. It was held in Stuttgart before in 2012 and has a purely national focus.

Congresses can also be held alongside trade fairs. Examples of this approach include the 52nd Doctor’s Congress of the District Medical Chamber of North Württemberg and the Baden-Württemberg State Health Congress, both of which took place at the end of January 2017 as part of the MEDIZIN trade fair.
