Las Vegas Convention Center gets to first base with concrete floor

Construction workers have begun pouring 600,000sq.ft of concrete flooring into the main exhibition hall in the new West Hall expansion of the Las Vegas Convention Center (LVCC).

The process will take between four and five months to complete and is a major step forward in the expansion construction, which is now 77% complete.

The Las Vegas Convention Center’s US$980m West Hall expansion will add 130,000sqm to the existing almost 300,000sqm campus. In addition to the exhibition hall, the expansion will feature an outdoor plaza and a grand atrium. The expansion is slated for completion in December 2020 and will feature new design and technology.

The work to fill the concrete floor – which will be 10-inch reinforced concrete slab capable of supporting the Center’s largest tradeshow exhibits – will take approximately 1,800 trips by fully loaded concrete trucks, the LVCC estimates.

Exhibitors will eventually be able to connect without the use of ground wiring and the space will become the largest column-free space in North America.
