More than 40,000 people are set to celebrate all things German at the Brisbane Showgrounds over two weekends, 5-7 October and 12-14 October, as Oktoberfest celebrations get underway.
Oktoberfest Brisbane is Australia’s largest German festival and has been running for more than a decade.
The festival turns the Brisbane Showgrounds into a mini Bavaria, with authentic German beer and pork knuckles and pretzels, yodelling and Bavarian folk music, plus no shortage of Dirndls and Lederhosen.
Brisbane Showgrounds General Manager of Venue Sales and Marketing Jago Coyle said the hugely popular event had been held at the Showgrounds since it was first introduced in 2008.
“Oktoberfest Brisbane is now in its 11th year, with the celebrations covering more than two hectares of space at the Showgrounds,” he said.
“October is a busy month for us, with Oktoberfest just one of 33 events taking place. Others include the Pre-Christmas Caravan and Camping Sale 25-28 October, which is expecting around 15,000 people and Pinot Palooza on 13 October which is the world’s largest pinot noir festival attracting 250 wines from more than 100 wineries.”
The Brisbane Showgrounds precinct is located just 1.5km from Brisbane’s CBD and is
Queensland’s largest indoor/outdoor events site.
