As part of plans to reposition Magaluf as an upmarket destination, Meliá Hotels International, a Spanish-owned chain with 350 properties worldwide has opened a congress centre in nearby Palma.

EW visited Mallorca, the island where both destinations are situated, to learn about the new investments.

Meliá Hotels International has opened a new convention centre at the new Palau de Congressos de Palma and its adjoining hotel, Meliá Palma Bay.

Designed by the Spanish architect, Francisco Mangado, the Palau de Congressos de Palma is located on Palma’s Paseo Marítimo seafront, just five minutes from the airport, the cathedral and the historical heart of the city, offering spectacular views of Palma Bay.

All units, the grand auditorium, small auditorium and exhibition area, can operate separately, which ensures energy use and maintenance costs are kept to a minimum. The complex will use 100 per cent green energy.

Meliá Palma Bay offers 268 rooms that have taken on the wellbeing philosophy of the Meliá brand. The hotel offers guests facilities to help them relax and meditate. The rooftop terrace has a swimming pool overlooking the most spectacular bay in the city, as well as an indoor spa and gym. For the most discerning travellers, Meliá Palma Bay will also have an exclusive service, The Level, within the hotel, providing 53 rooms and a VIP lounge.

EW’s trip also took in Meliá Calvia Beach, Sol Beach House, Gran Meliá Del Mar and Katmandu Park. See our highlights in the gallery.
