German trade fairs report says China is biggest exhibitor

EUROPE - A new report by the Association of the German Trade Fair Industry (AUMA) has revealed China provides the most exhibitors at German trade fairs.

In 2012, around 99,000 international exhibitors took part in 160 trade fairs in Germany, 4.2 per cent more than in corresponding events in previous years.

Participations from Chinese exhibitors rose by 11 per cent with 27,000 exhibitors from southern, eastern and central Asia, as predicted in a report released at the beginning of the year by AUMA. The report said German trade fairs are expected to grow despite reduced consumption in Europe.

The report found that on average, exhibitor numbers from EU countries rose by 3.5 per cent. “Despite their economic and financial difficulties, participation in German trade fairs by countries from southern parts of the EU remained stable,” said a spokesman from AUMA.

Exhibitor numbers from European countries outside of the EU rose by four per cent, including Russia and Ukraine.

The spokesman said exhibitors from the Middle East grew substantially by 16 per cent. “Following a recent period of stagnation and even decline, growth in participation from the USA was relatively high, up five per cent.”

Exhibitor numbers from South America increased only slightly, while those from Africa fell by five per cent.

AUMA released a report last year showing the number of non-EU countries in Europe attending German trade fair venues rose in 2011.
