Durban expo to implement sports tourism strategy

AFRICA - The Sports and Events Tourism Exchange (SETE) Conference and Exhibition is returning to the International Convention Centre (ICC) in Durban for its third show this autumn.

Thebe Exhibitions and Projects Group (TEPG) said the show is aimed at positioning South Africa as a sports tourism destination, and expects to attract more than 1,000 visitors on 22-24 October.

“With sport tourism as one of the fastest growing areas of global travel and tourism, it is clear that SETE will play a vital part in promoting the new sports trend within the industry,” said a spokesman from TEPG.

The event will comprise a two-day conference, an exhibition and networking events, and aim to implement the sport tourism strategy that was adopted in the 2012 conference, said the organiser.

SETE will also offer a international hosted buyer programme, funded by the Department of Trade and Industry and South African Tourism.
