Amsterdam RAI confirms leading position in sustainability

EUROPE - Amsterdam RAI is reinforcing its sustainability drive with a new study on how CSR can be made more measurable and identifiable within the organisation.

The venue achieved a number of environmental certifications last year and made sustainability a core value in its corporate mission, embedding its CSR policy within the organisation.

In the final quarter of 2011, Amsterdam RAI received three important certificates, namely an ISO-14001 certification, a golden re-certification from Green Key and a silver re-certification from EarthCheck.

A new sustainability report published by Amsterdam RAI indicates that over the coming period it will be looking into ways to make CSR even more measurable and transparent.

The venue has divided its sustainability goals into seven themes: energy and climate, mobility, water, waste, employees, procurement and social engagement. Key initiatives so far include using carpet waste as a combustion product in the cement industry and a waste separation process.

“Our aim is to be a successful business that contributes to a sustainable society and ensures a good balance in all the choices we make,” said general manager Hans Bakker. “We believe that sustainability adds value to an organisation, and including it in the company policy will generate more clients and greater engagement among employees.”

Last year the venue Amsterdam RAI began receiving goods by boat for the first time as part of a new green initiative.
