Former UK PM Tony Blair to speak at Bangkok BOI Fair

ASIA – Thailand’s ministry of industry is working with the Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB) to boost investment in the country through high profile keynote speakers at the Thailand Board of Investment (BOI) Fair 2011.
 
Secretary general of BOI, Dr Atchaka Sibunruang, said as part of the ongoing event, which runs at the Plaza Athenee Hotel Bangkok until 20 January 2012, TCEB is hosting the first honorary investment advisor session on 16 January and a CEO forum on 17 January.
 
Both sessions are expected to provide arenas for the sharing of ideas and strategies between Thai public and private sectors on investment opportunities including economic rehabilitation plans and flood prevention measures.
 
Speakers include former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, who will deliver an address on challenges and opportunities in a globalised world; while Supachai Panitchpakdi, secretary-general of the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) will speak on global sustainable foreign direct investment, and opportunities for Thailand. Surin Pitsuwan, secretary-general of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) will talk about what the ASEAN Economic Community means to Thailand.
 
Other speakers at the forum include Kittiratt Na-Ranong, deputy prime minister and minister of commerce, who will outline the country’s economic stimulation plans.
 
The BOI Fair 2012 is touted by the government as Thailand’s largest international industrial exhibition, using the theme 'Going Green for the Future’.
 
“We are also honoured that Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra will the host a gala dinner at the Government House for the CEO Forum participants to help restore confidence among investors, “ said Sibunruang.
 
Another of TCEB’s key initiatives at the BOI Fair 2012 is reasserting Thailand’s candidacy for the World Expo 2020 through a Believe in Thailand: Expo 2020 pavilion.
