HKCEC tops list of Asian exhibition centres for ninth year

ASIA - The Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC) has been named Asia's best exhibition and convention centre for the ninth year, an achievement followed by AsiaWorld-Expo, which was named among Asia's top three exhibition centres for the first time, at a recent industry awards event.

This year’s awards also mark the first time that Hong Kong has had two venues listed in the top three, underlining Hong Kong’s status as a world-class MICE destination.

Cliff Wallace, MD of Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre Management Ltd said: “Once again we are delighted to have achieved such high-level recognition. Our continued success is no accident; it is the outcome of the total dedication and professionalism of our HML staff who bring exceptional levels of enthusiasm, responsiveness and experience to serve event organisers and users from around the world."

The six-year-old AsiaWorld-Expo was also recognised in a ceremony organised by CEI Asia magazine based on votes and feedback by professionals from the MICE industry.

The venue recently unveiled its latest Economic Contribution Assessment Report conducted by KPMG, which indicated the venue had contributed HK$13.4bn (US$1.7bn) to the local economy in 2010, a 25 per cent increase on the previous year.

“We are deeply honoured to be recognised by globally-renowned industry leaders and professionals,” said Allen Ha (pictured), CEO of AsiaWorld-Expo Management. “Being named one of the top three ‘Best Convention/Exhibition Centres’ is a high-profile recognition of our commitment to excellence, including our enhanced transportation network.”

The sixth edition of Eco Expo Asia at AsiaWorld-Expo, drew a crowd of 8,400 visitors with its theme: ‘Green Tech for a Low-Carbon Economy’ in October.
