RTE extends MoU with Beijing

CHINA - Reed Travel Exhibitions (RTE) and the Beijing Municipal Commission of Tourism Development (BTD) have signed a memorandum of understanding to continue the strategic partnership they originally formed in 2009.

The new MoU will run through to 2013 and should underpin further development of the regional meetings show, CIBTM.

At an official signing ceremony that took place at CIBTM 2011, in Beijing, Lu Yong Director General of BTD and Richard Mortimore, MD of Reed Travel Exhibitions, agreed through the MoU to jointly work to develop a sustainable Chinese business tourism and meetings sector including boosting Chinese participation at events organised by RTE. These include regional meetings shows AIBTM in Baltimore, EIBTM in Barcelona, AIME in Melbourne and GIBTM in Abu Dhabi.

BTD sees the continued partnership as part of its business tourism strategy to maintain its status as an Asian MICE industry hub, and to raise awareness of its increasing development of the infrastructure for the meetings sector in the city.  BTD will, in turn, assist RTE with the strategic development of CIBTM in the region.

Sun Weijia, vice-chairman of BTD said: “The co-operation of RTE and BTD over the past few years has been excellent and surely will continue to grow so that both of us can benefit. We aim to help develop CIBTM to be the best in the region and in the future we are looking for it to be one of the most influential in the world."
