HKCEC annual event attendance reaches six million

HONG KONG - The Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC), achieved a record event attendance of 5,969,789 for its fiscal year 2010-2011, up by aquarter on the previous year.

The jump in attendance, a result of an enlarged event portfolio, spanned 116 exhibitions held at the HKCEC. Eighteen of these covered a gross area of 30,000sqm or more and the overall average gross exhibition area was 16,272sqm.

Among the 116 exhibitions, 102 were recurrent exhibitions and 10 were new. Of the recurrent exhibitions, 35 recorded double-digit growth in terms of gross exhibition space compared with their previous editions, with growth ranging from 10 to 83 per cent. Art HK 2011 experienced 40 per cent growth in size from the previous year, on top of the launch of two new concurrent events: Art Futures and Asia One.

The MD of Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre Management (HML), Cliff Wallace, recently inducted into the CIC Hall of Leaders, said that the growth statistics “vividly reaffirm” the necessity of the HKCEC’s second expansion in 2009.

“We take pride in serving expanding recurrent exhibitions and introducing new events to our portfolio, both of which further consolidate HKCEC’s position as a preferred venue for event organisers,” said Wallace. “This year’s remarkable achievement is a testament to the dedication, professionalism and experience of our 920enthusiastic staff here at HML.”

HML is the professional private management company responsible for the venue management and daily operation of the HKCEC. In 23 years of operation, the HML team has hosted 39,606 events and has collectively served around 70 million buyers, exhibitors, visitors and guests.
