Reed consults London police for IJL security

UK - Following the August riots in London and other UK cities, Reed Exhibitions has sought to reassure exhibitors and visitors to International Jewellery London 2011 (IJL) that the organiser is working closely with the Metropolitan Police to deliver a secure event.

The IJL team is liasing with the police and management at major retail shopping areas to discuss security procedures. The team is also consulting the British Transport Police regarding safe travel to and from the show.

“We work closely with Earls Court staff during and ahead of IJL and security is a top priority when planning the event,” said Syreeta Tranfield, who takes the role of event co-director for the first time this year. “There are strict security procedures in place to ensure the safety of exhibitors, visitors and the IJL show team. We make sure that the environment in which our visitors and exhibitors do business is both productive and safe.”

The exhibition will run from 4 to 7 September at Earls Court 2 in London.

Earlier this month, India's Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council claimed to have increased security six-fold at the 2011 India International Jewellery Show after thieves stole 6.6 crore (US$1.5m) of jewellery from exhibitors the previous year.
