India opens first convention and visitors bureau in Hyderabad

INDIA – India’s first regional convention and visitors bureau has started operation in Hyderabad and it hopes its creation will draw key exhibitions to the city, as well as conventions.

The Hydrabad Convention Visitors Bureau’s (HCVB) newly-appointed CEO is Jalil (Gary) Khan, who is a native to the city. However, he has spent 23 years in California working for United Airlines.

“HCVB will take Hyderabad to the world and bring the world to Hyderabad," said Khan. "My top most responsibility is to be Hyderabad's brand ambassador and that explains my overall role too.”

"Government of Andhra Pradesh (whose capital city is Hyderabad), is delighted to be the founding partner in the formation of HCVB and supports this industry initiative which is in tune with the Tourism policy of the State," added Secretary Tourism and Youth Affairs, Jayesh Ranjan. "With HCVB now in full swing, we have created a single platform where exhibition buyers can expect to have all the possible assistance extended to them, to enable them to choose our city as the destination for their events.”

President elect of HCVB, Paul Archer, said: “Winning exhibitions and conventions into your city has a 'multiplier effect' on the local economy and acts as a growth engine to drive tax generation, local employment, shopping of local specialties like art and handicraft, ground transport, guides and monuments and touches almost all constituents of the local community in one or another way.”
