AirAsia expands reach in India

MALAYSIA and INDIA - Budget airline AirAsia is set to expand its reach in India with routes planned from April to five more cities including New Delhi.

Other destinations to India from Kuala Lumpur (KL) International Airport’s Low-Cost Carrier Terminal (LCCT) include Chennai (daily), Banaglore (daily), Hyderahad (daily) and Mumbai (Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday).

Malaysian minister for transport, Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat, told local press at a launch ceremony in KL that the new routes would further open up the Malaysian business and tourist market to India. “I hope the increased accessibility into India, coupled with low fares, will stimulate the interest of SMEs in India and Malaysia to further invest and expand their business beyond their native shores.”

Present at the launch were AirAsia group CEO, Datuk Seri Tony Fernandes, Malaysian Associated Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry vice-president, Datuk Ramesh Kodammal, and Tourism Malaysia deputy director-general Azizan Noordin.
