GL events to give up management of Barcelona International Convention Centre

Fira de Barcelona and GL events have signed an agreement, which will see the former group taking charge of managing the Barcelona International Convention Centre (BICC).

The BICC is currently under the management of French event company GL events, and is owned by Barcelona City Council. Fira de Barcelona is the tradefair institute of the city of Barcelona, and will take charge of the venue in 2021.

Fira de Barcelona will ensure a steady transition in management, and will continue to work with GL events after 2021 in the provision of supplies and services.

The agreement also includes the possibility of pursuing further international collaborations between Fira de Barcelona and GL events in Asia and Latin America.

Barcelona City Council, owner of the CCIB, awarded its management to Fira de Barcelona for a period of 25 years, starting in November 2021.

The CCIB, which has a surface area of more than 100,000 square meters, had a turnover of nearly €38m in 2018 after holding 119 different events. Since it commenced operations in 2004, it has hosted more than 1,500 events of all kinds including congresses, conventions, cultural events and concerts, with more than 6.8m attendees.
