UBM expands healthcare portfolio

Hospitalar

AMERICAS - UBM has announced the acquisition of Brazil–based healthcare trade show Hospitalar from SPFC Group.

Hospitalar serves the country's healthcare industry, showcasing products, equipment, serves and technology for hospitals, laboratories, pharmacies and health clinics.

The show's 22nd edition, held in Sao Paulo on 19-22 May, generated around US$10m revenue, and attracted 1250 exhibitors and 95,000 attendees.

UBM officials did not disclose the purchase price, but said the return on investment was expected to exceed the company’s weighted average cost of capital in the first full year of ownership.

UBM chief executive Tim Cobbold said the show “fits very neatly” within the company’s exhibition portfolio.
“It is a “must-attend” show with an increasingly international customer base and will further strengthen our position in Brazil,” Cobbold said.

“We are excited about the opportunity to leverage UBM’s strong position in the medical device and manufacturing sector.  We are already planning to co-locate a MD&M show alongside Hospitalar 2016.”

UBM’s portfolio of events in Brazil includes Marintec South America, Food Ingredients South America, Concrete Show South America, NT Expo and Intermodal South America.
