Thailand to host 2014 edition of Pharmex Asia

ASIA – Bangkok is to host the 2014 edition of Pharmex Asia alongside the World Congress of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences.

The congress, organised by the Pharmaceutical Association of Thailand under Royal Patronage and Asian Exhibition Services (AES), is the annual meeting of the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP), an organisation founded in 1912 in The Hague with a globally rotating event.

Last year’s congress was held in Hyderabad, India, and will be hosted this year in Amsterdam and next year in Dublin. The 2014 edition marks the fourth time the 100-year-old event is being held in Asia.

A spokesman for AES claimed Thailand is the ideal place to host Pharmex Asia due to the absence of a dedicated pharmaceutical, medical equipment and healthcare product manufacturing exhibition serving regional manufacturers.

President of the Pharmaceutical Association of Thailand under Royal Patronage Teera Chakajnarodom said: "Pharmex Asia 2014 comes at an opportune time, as the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) will open and become one single market in 2015.

“With the combined population of 600 million, or 10 per cent of the world population, the AEC will have the clout with its emerging markets to attract investors from all business sectors, healthcare is no exception. Pharmex Asia 2014 is a first class exhibition for local and global pharmaceutical, medical and healthcare related products, services and technology.”

The event will be supported by the Ministry of Public Health, the Ministry of Education, the Government Pharmaceutical Organisation (GPO), the Thai Pharmacy Council, the Food & Drug Administration (FDA), the Health Service Committee of the Thai Chamber of Commerce and the various related trade associations affiliated to the Pharmaceutical Association of Thailand to include the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers Association (PReMA), the Industrial Pharmacist Association and the Thai Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association of Thailand.

Participants are expected to include multinationals operating in Thailand, technology and equipment manufacturers, local importers and distributors of pharmaceutical manufacturing technology and equipment, laboratory and test equipment suppliers. The event is also geared towards local pharmaceutical product manufacturers and international technology and equipment manufacturers seeking to penetrate the Asian market with strong support from Germany, India and China.

The Thailand Convention & Exhibition Bureau (TCEB) is looking to establish new business contracts in the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS), as it looks back on six months of growth.
