MALAYSIAN PM SUPPORTS HALAL INDUSTRY AT TRADE EVENT

MALAYSIA – Showing his support for the global halal industry in a keynote address, the prime minister of Malaysia, Datik Seri Najib Razak, told 900 delegates from 50 countries at the 5th World Halal Forum at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre that the forum’s topic 'State of The Industry: Market Access and International Trade' is timely.

He told the delegates that Malaysia sought to highlight halal awareness to the world through events like the World Halal Forum, from 21 to 22 June, and Malaysian International Halal Showcase (MIHAS), 23 to 27 June. Both events are held at the same time as part of the Halal Malaysia Week, which includes the World Halal Research Summit, 23 to 25 June.

The week is organised by the Kasehdia Sdn Bhd (for World Halal Forum), Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) and the Halal Industry Development Corporation (HDC).

"Realising the potential of the halal industry requires a thorough understanding of all issues and challenges that face it. It is time to take stock and realistically assess our progress in order to re-evaluate our strategies to ensure we're on the right track to fully capitalise on the untapped potential that remains," he said.
