Renewed shipping confidence bodes well for sold out Posidonia 2010

GREECE - Greece’s premier biennial shipping trade event Posidonia opens its doors on 7 June on the back of renewed confidence in the state of Greek maritime affairs.

According to the Union of Greek Shipowners (UGS), Greece’s foreign exchange earnings from ocean-going shipping amounted to €13.5bn in 2009. This sits alongside further investment from shipping and logistics company, the China Ocean Shipping Company (COSCO)

COSCO has reiterated its commitment to the port of Piraeus’s commercial docks operations, outlining its strategy to double the current workforce and establish it as a key European gateway for Chinese trade.

"COSCO, and others that have subsequently committed investments to Greece, had first been introduced to Greece through their participation to Posidonia as far back as 1990," says organiser of Posidonia, Themis Vokos.

Vokos adds Posidonia 2010 has sold out, making it the biggest ever: "More than 1,850 exhibitors from 87 countries will participate in 30,700sqm, which means the exhibition is 11.5 per cent bigger than 2008."

Posidonia 2010 runs from 7 to 11 June at the Hellenikon Exhibition Centre, Greece.
