Mandalay Bay opens first stage of US$70m convention centre revamp

Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas has unveiled stage one of its US$70m expansion project, welcoming delegates for fashion trade show MAGIC last week.

The 16-month renovation project, expected to be completed in January 2016, will add 32,500sqm to the centre, bringing its total exhibition space to more than 83,000sqm.

Stage one features a new exhibition space, 1,858sqm foyer, state-of-the-art wifi and expanded parking.

"With business volume increasing, this change provides us with more flexibility to host a wider variety of groups," said Stephanie Glanzer, vice president of sales, Mandalay Bay.

"Whether hosting a small corporate group, mid-size association or large tradeshow, each group will have their own dedicated area within our convention center along with a dedicated team to assist in every detail."

“One of our larger shows, MAGIC, is a valued loyal customer and we are pleased to welcome them as our first group into the new space.”

Organised by UBM Advanstar, fashion marketplace MAGIC presents the latest trends in apparel, footwear and accessories from more than 5,000 brands.

“Mandalay Bay changed their construction plans to meet our growth needs, and we are proud to have MAGIC be the first show in the new expansion,” said Tony Calanca, executive vice president of exhibitions for UBM Advanstar.

“We have enjoyed working with the professionals at Mandalay Bay throughout the years and appreciate their willingness to help us create the most positive, productive experiences for our customers.”

Centre officials said it would make the convention centre the fifth largest in the US, based on both floorspace and exhibit space.
