Estoril sustains green programme at new level

IMEX NEWS - Estoril Congress Centre's director of business development Pedro Rocha dos Santos has announced a Green Fund Programme designed to incentivise meeting planners to book green events in Estoril.

The main objective of the initiative is to stimulate use of the ECC's green services and tools, Rocha noted.

Clients will receive green credits according to space booked for use on green services.
A system of bonus offers complement the initiative, as the centre builds on its big green campaign launched in 2008.

Rocha boasted some of the best green credentials in the industry, as part of programmes run in conjunction with MCI, Green Globe International and the Green Meetings Industry Council.

He admitted that the recently launched Global Green Alliance of three international convention centres (Melbourne, Liverpool and Cape Town) had not invited ECC to join, but expected to announce a GMIC Iberian Chapter in coming months.

Rocha also reported that turnover for 2010 at ECC was so far running up 25 per cent for the year to date.

He acknowledged that take-up by organisers of full green meetings programmes had not been as high as initially hoped, but predicted that 'this is about to change' with new United Nations support for the Estoril initiatives.

'We have a responsibility to show there are different ways of doing things,' he commented.
