Tighter standards for ITB Asia preferred buyers

SINGAPORE - The organiser of B2B travel show ITB Asia 2010 has introduced new filtering techniques to its hosted buyers programme.

The new selection process aims to tightly control which buyers pre-schedule appointments with exhibitors.

“We want to focus on quality over quantity,” says ITB Asia Executive Director Nino Gruettke. “We will limit the number of hosted buyers to 700 and make sure these are the best we can get.”

Buyers will now only be allowed to register during three periods of approximately three weeks each in the run-up to the event, with organisers able to adjust the specifications buyers must meet before each period of registration.

Influential buyers will also be able to recommend others for the programme.

“It works like a job recommendation,” says Gruettke. “The recommender’s own reputation sticks to the recommended person.”

Exhibitors will also be encouraged to nominate buyers to be invited on their behalf by show organiser Messe Berlin.

Registered buyers will be required to schedule 10 appointments for each day of the show.

ITB Asia will take place from 20 to 22 October 2010.
