Taipei courts Japanese designer to boost fashion trade fair

TAIWAN - The annual Taipei In Style fashion trade fair, organised by the Taiwan Textile Federation (TTF), is trying to draw business from the major European fashion shows with a new exhibitor.

The organiser has invited Japanese designer Issey Miyake to present a collection that has never been shown anywhere other than Paris Fashion Week, in an attempt to entice overseas visitors.

The event, which showcases the country's leading designers and brands, takes place at the Taipei World Trade Center on 27-29 August.

A spokesman for the TTF said that now is the time for fashion designers to explore business opportunities in China, amid talks between the two sides of the Taiwan Strait on a proposed cross-strait economic cooperation framework agreement.
