Madrid to build new convention centre

SPAIN - Madrid will become home to the largest conference venue in Spain with the opening of its new International Convention Centre.

With a capacity of 30,000 visitors, the six-story building will house a 15,000sqm exhibition area and 6,500sqm grand auditorium, as well as a number of restaurants and coffee shops.

Designed to look like a great glowing sun rising over Madrid, the building will stand in the new financial and business neighbourhood in North Madrid, among four existing skyscrapers.

Architects Tuñón and Mansilla are aiming to have the Madrid International Convention Centre up and running in 2011.
